Larry Seaquist continues his career of public service as an elected state representative in Washington state. Larry represents about 90,000 voters in the 26th Legislative District which stretches from Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula in Western Pierce County up through South Kitsap County to historic Port Orchard and downtown Bremerton.

First elected in 2006, Larry serves as Vice Chair of the House Appropriations committee on Health and Human Services. He also sits on the Ways & Means Committee, the Early Learning and Childrens Services Committee, the Select Committee on Pension Policy, and the Legislative Evaluation and Accountability Committee.

A former US Navy warship captain and Pentagon strategist, he worked as a writer before jumping into elected politics, contributing essays to The Christian Science Monitor, working on a book, and serving as technical advisor to the TV limited series, THE GRID. For the decade following his Navy career, he chartered the non-profit Strategy Group to foster professionalism among peacebuilders, both civilian and military. Often working personally with the Director-General of UNESCO in Paris and heads of states he designed and demonstrated innovative strategies for conflict prevention and community development in the Middle East (Jordan, Israel and Palestine), Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan and neighbors), South Asia (Sri Lanka), Latin America (Colombia and the region), and in American cities (Washington, DC, Columbus, OH, and Seattle/King County, WA).

Deeply concerned about the state of political democracy in America, he co-founded with his wife, Carla, the Refreshing Democracy Project, a local citizen's project to reopen democracy's dialog. See www.RefreshingDemocracy.com. His wife, Carla, is a writer and playwright. Her new book, “Manufacturing Hope: Notes on Politics, Culture, Torture, and the American Character” may be found on Amazon.com. Carla and Larry live in Gig Harbor, Washington halfway between the culture of Seattle and the politics of Olympia.
